Pontus Lidberg in NYC!

fallFor those of you that have been following my work closely you’re aware of my fondness for choreographer Pontus Lidberg, and you’d know my feelings about “The Rain” being one of the best short films ever made. (The first time I saw it at a festival I called nearly everyone I knew singing about its poetic grace; any body of work that makes you dance down Fifth Avenue because words cannot describe it is beyond inspiring.)

2The last time he was in New York with a residency at the Baryshnikov Arts Center he and I sat down for a lengthy conversation about a new film he’s working on. I  won’t get into much detail in this post because I’m working on a feature-length profile, but I am thrilled to announce that he was selected for the prestigious Joyce SoHo Artist Residency for the Spring 2010!

The Joyce Theater Foundation, Inc. provides artist residencies to approximately five choreographers each year. Past residency artists and the works they created include: Robert Battle, The Word; Benjamin Millepied, Without; and Stephen Petronio, City of Twist and Broken Man.

When we last spoke he hadn’t yet heard the news, and I couldn’t be happier for him and for the New York City dance community now that it’s been awarded.  Be on the lookout for my profile on this ingénue.
