In the midst of skimming the last of the three newspapers I read every morning (ok…I read two, peruse one) I noticed an article on writer Guillermo Arriaga’s directorial debut with “The Burning Plain” starring Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger. Arriaga is best known in the states for writing “Babel,” “21 Grams,” and my favorite, “Amores Perros.” This film, like the others, will circle around the complexity of love.
If you’ve been reading these journals, you know that my struggle with love is a large fraction of my search for inner resolve. Every day we make choices, sometimes they’re poor, but mostly…hopefully…they’re good enough to make it worthwhile enough to work through the mistakes and the bungling. Heaven knows I’ve made some.
It was what Arriaga said about the universality of love which touched a soft spot in me. My last entry spoke about TRUE forgiveness and his words spoke to what I’ve been praying for (for myself and everyone around me who’s suffered through what it takes to pull yourself out of whatever mess you’re in): “No matter what darkness one may find himself in, there is always a possibility of love and redemption.”
(And with that I’m also wishing BB a very happy birthday!)
