Dancin’ Downtown Competition at The Joyce Theater with DRA

MISSION

Dancin’ Downtown is the only competition providing dance students the opportunity to be seen by such a diverse and distinguished group of dance luminaries on one of the most prestigious dance stages in New York City…The Joyce Theater. This unique competition benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

Submissions can include any style of dance.

All submissions must be no longer than 6 minutes.

Only groups are to be submitted and include no less than 4 dancers and no more than 15.

All dancers must be 24 years old and younger.

Each school may submit an unlimited number of entries.

All submissions must be able to perform on May 17, 2010 but DVD submission does not guarantee a performance slot.

Complete entry form and mail a DVD of the dance with the Application fee -$25 per entry- fee is fully tax deductible and non-refundable. Send to:

In order to be considered for the Finale, all materials must be received no later than Friday March 26, 2010. DVD submissions will be judged by a panel of dance professionals who will select the top dances to compete at The Finale on May 17, 2010 at The Joyce Theater. All entries will be notified by April 16, 2010 by Dancers Responding to AIDS on status of participation.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SELECTED TOP 20 DANCES

The Participation fee for all selected entries is $50 per performer.

All selected entries are required to sell a minimum of 20 tickets at $45/ticket per selected entry.

All fees and donations made payable to Dancers Responding to AIDS are 100% tax deductible.

All participating entries will have tech rehearsal day of event-schedule to be determined

Founded in 1991, by former Paul Taylor dancers Denise Roberts Hurlin and Hernando Cortez, Dancers Responding to AIDS (DRA) is a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS the nation’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization. By drawing upon the talents, resources and generosity of the American theatre & dance communities, BC/EFA raises funds for AIDS-related causes and other critical illnesses across the United States. Since its founding in 1988, BC/EFA has raised over $175 million dollars for critically needed services for people with AIDS and other serious illnesses. BC/EFA is the major supporter of seven programs at The Actors Fund – including The AIDS Initiative, The Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative, The Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic, The Dancers’ Resource and three supportive housing residences.

BC/EFA also awards annual grants to over 400 AIDS and family service organizations nationwide.
