It seems almost everyone I know has the forlorn monkey of lost love on their back these days–some people just miss having it, others miss a particular person…
Then there is me, who doesn’t care about it, yet is forced to spend at least 40% of her time consoling, guiding, and advising friends in desperate need of it. As I text and talk my consolations and advice, it makes me think about what those words “I love you” really mean if the person who said them is no longer in your life…
I’m going to say it now loud and clear so hopefully you’ll toughen up and be a little smarter in whom you chose to give your love to:
“I love you” can mean a lot of things… like “you’ll do ’till someone better comes along,” or “I can’t describe how I really feel, but I know that I’m supposed to say this,” or “Shut up, I’m watching TV.”
That’s the reality kiddies, not everyone really means it when they say it, so the only way to protect yourself is not to care whether the person loves you back or not…if you love them, it shouldn’t even matter.
